My name is Dr Stephen Cattanach.
I have been a specialist obstetrician / gynaecologist working
in Brisbane since 1989.
I graduated in Medicine at the University of Melbourne in
1980.
I trained in obstetrics and gynaecology in Melbourne at
various hospitals, including the Mercy Hospital for women,
the Austin and Repatriation Hospitals, before 18 months
of further training in Ireland, principally in Limerick.
I then completed my training at the Mater Misericordiae,
Princess Alexander and QEII hospitals, and worked as a clinical
lecturer at the Department of Medicine, University of Queensland.
Since 1989 I have had a wide-ranging practice on the South
side and central Brisbane. |

My practice covers a wide
range of aspects of my specialities. This includes surgical
aspects of gynaecology such as laparoscopic and vaginal
surgery as well as open procedures including the treatment
of endometriosis, problems with menstrual bleeding and
incontinence as well as pre-cancerous and early cancerous
changes of the uterus and cervix. This also involves assessment
of abnormal pap smears with colposcopy and some of the
treatments are carried out in our treatment room at the
Mater Medical Centre. I am now a member of Assisted Conception
Australia and practice IVF at Greenslopes Private Hospital.
I have a wide range of interests including problems of
the vulva, infertility and endocrine abnormalities such
as polycystic ovarian syndrome.
I see patients of all ages.
Some visit me from the Pacific and South East Asia as
well as far west Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Details
I consult at the below addresses, but all accounts, appointments
and general enquiries are made through my main office at the Mater
Medical Centre. The office hours are 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday.
After hours I can be contacted at my residence on 07 3892 1796. On
some weekends and public holidays, I may be away and my gynaecological
colleagues will care for my patients.

Referrals
To enable you to claim the cost of your visit from Medicare, you
must have a current referral. It is the responsibility of the patient
to ensure that this requirement has been met. If your referral is
from another specialist, it is only valid for 3 months. Referrals
issued by a General Practitioner remain current for 12 months or longer
if specified.
Overseas patients who are not eligible for Medicare rebate, do not
require a referral.

Fees
This practice accepts the Gap Cover scheme for most in-hospital procedures,
however a patient co-payment is charged commensurate with the degree
of difficulty of the surgery which is under taken. For your convenience
my staff will process your account via the Gap Cover scheme if eligible,
and an account for the co-payment will be issued to you following
your surgery.
We are happy to discuss these fees with you at any stage in the course
of your treatment and if the costs involved cause financial difficulties,
we are more than happy to discuss ways to overcome this.
Consultations and procedures in my rooms are charged in accordance
with the AMA schedule of
fees. A Medicare rebate applies.
We are able to accept payment by EFTPOS, credit card, cheque or cash.
Credit card payments can also be made over the telephone.

* Car parking is available under the Mater Medical Centre.
* The Mater Hill bus station is situated in Stanley Street, which is at
level 1 of the Mater Medical Centre.
* The Vulture Street (South Brisbane) train station is approximately a 10 minute walk. (If you
use the entrance to the Mater Hill bus way instead of the Vulture
street entrance, the walk from the train station is flat.)
